I have two xerox phaser printers. The 6250 has been nothing but problems also. It has been returned once and the problem still happens. I get a “Jam at fuser” after just a few pages almost every time I print. I have replaced the fuser twice, they are not cheap, on the advise of customer service. Still have the same problem. I googled the error and noticed a ton of other people have the same issue.

We use these printers at work.

Everyday, there’s a 95% chance the thing is going to jam up w/ the first print of the day.

Additionally, the color is waaaay off. I mean to the point where the color green at the top of a page is yellow at the bottom. It’s really confusing when you’re performing tasks like reviewing shaded spreadsheet printouts where the colors have meaning.

    Plain-and-simple: AVOID THIS PRODUCT.

The upside: It only cost and arm-and-a-leg to purchase, “so we’ve got that going for us, which is nice.”

This is the worst printer I’ve ever owned and will NEVER buy another Xerox. As a professional graphic designer, I’ve owned about 7 different printers. I’ve had this printer for almost 2 years and I have had more trouble with this Xerox than with all the others combined. It started from day one when the first page would jam on start up and the unit would emit a high decibel, high pitched squeal. Finally the reps sent a message to the printer telling it basically to send more juice to the engine on start up, but it still jams (and squeals) frequently. The fuser had to be replaced at just 20K pages (at a cost of $250). I get a jam every 6 or 7 pages now at the fuser and Xerox can’t/won’t help find the problem.

The color quality is poor and printing any color image results in “ghosting” all down the page. Paper handling is very poor and anything heavier than 20# gets permanently curled. I can’t use any output from this printer for anything other than basic proofs – the quality just isn’t acceptable for anything else.

I am now going back to my reliable HP and Lexmark models. I do not have time to deal with the problems that this unit has. I cannot believe how awful this printer is for a price of over $2k. I could have gotten the same problems with other machines and saved a ton! Save yourself the aspirin and buy anything else!

We used Tektronix Phaser printers in the ’90s, and when we needed a replacement Postscript printer two years ago, we bought a Phaser 6250DP. It worked well for about six months and then we started having various minor problems. At ten months and about 23K pages, we had to get a service rep out to fix a failing imaging unit. They had our machine apart for two days and basically replaced every major assembly in the printer. After that it worked well for about two months. Now nine months later and out of warranty, the machine doesn’t print 20 pages without a jam (especially at startup). I’ve concluded the Phaser brand really doesn’t mean anything anymore. As soon as the carts in this beast are empty, we’re looking for another machine, and it won’t be from Xerox!

I work in an area with a team of about 20 engineers, and our group 6250DP has been flawless for almost two years now. It’s a mixed environment of Windows and Mac OSX. We print about 5000 pages/month consisting of spot-color documentation, presentations, LOTS of vugraphs, and photographs. The average cost has been around 5 cents a page for consumables. Reliability: perfect. Installation: effortless. In fact, on my floor, there are now no less than eight of these machines, and again, no trouble. I have no idea why the other reviewers have had such difficulties. We do feed our printer only top-quality paper and Xerox transparency materials; I’m sure that helps a little in avoiding paper path troubles. The fundamental design is quite clever, especially compared with its HP competition. And here’s my final opinion: After so many years suffering with inkjets at home, I just went out and bought a 6250DP for my wife, who’s a technical illustrator. Installation with Mac OS9 and X was quick and easy, and the $600 rebate sure helped… Tip: if you visit the Xerox website and run the little flash animated printer tour, you can get another $50 rebate. Cool.
