I just bought this printer from Office Max about two hours ago. I needed it for two the two sided printing capabilities. Well, the owners manual doesn’t show you how to make the two sided printing work properly. I called Samsung customer service and asked for some help. The first guy told me he couldn’t help me, so I asked to talk to someone else. Next, I talked to the supervisor who had the same response! They recommended that I just bring it back!! I am astounded, this was supposed to save me time. Instead, I have wasted two hours for nothing… Don’t waste your money on a company that won’t solve your problems and will suggest you bring their products back to the store!
I bought the Scx-4826FN MFC Samsung. The front door of the unit was “sprung” coming out of the box. I had to use the packing tape to hold it shut. Called Samsung for help. There final solution was to send me a “refurbished” printer for my NEW printer that was less than 3 days old. I will not buy another Samsung Product because this “refurbished” exchange process.
I bought this printer to replace a 5 year old Brother Multi Function Printer. I don’t have the model #’s written down but my choices were between this printer, a Canon, and another Brother. I dropped the Brother as the duplex functionality sounded like a great feature in the other two. The printing speed, noise, and resolution looked better on the Samsung vs. the Canon.
This printer is a HUGE step up from my previous Brother. I bought a re-manufactured one for about $130 with shipping. It’s fast, printing quality is great, and it is quiet. One weird thing is the software that you install keeps putting a shortcut on my desktop. I delete the shortcut and it keeps coming back. I turned off this program during the startup process and will only turn it on if I need it.
This printer meets all my expectations. It takes a while to get used to all the features, since the documentation is lacking, but this is a great printer at a great price. This printer works well in a small office on a network. A laser printer is so much better than an inkjet printer. Don’t get buried under the excessive costs associated with an inkjet printer!
I agree with the reviewer from May – great little machine (made even better if you know what you are doing). We had no problems installing. Printing is fast and the output is beautiful. We went from a tiny personal Minolta laser printer that had put in a few great years to this for a few reasons. The Minolta was having a few problems that I was sick of dealing with, I was tired of manually duplexing, and we really wanted an auto document fed scanner (ADF). Now I just need to find a program that can automatically OCR and index the documents…
I didn’t install the indexing software they included, so I guess I avoided that pitfall. I have had the SCX-4826fn a couple of months and love it. I haven’t used the fax yet, but that’s not what I bought it for. I bought it because it was the only laser ADF MFP with automatic duplexing in a reasonable price range! Nothing else even came close!
I only have a few minor complaints (really minor):
-The duplexing isn’t smart. If you set (in printer preferences) to auto duplex (my preference is long side), it will duplex a printout of a single page. On the other hand, the duplexing is really quite fast.
-The manual paper feed tends to crinkle the sides or go in slightly crooked. But since it’s got the auto duplexing function, I hardly use this.
-It doesn’t default to the last scan’s setting. Or if you set the preferences up with the driver on the computer, you still have to scroll past ‘Scan to USB’ to get to ‘Scan to Computer’. I was really hoping for a 1-touch scan so I could get these stacks of old paperwork out of my office quickly.
Per the remark about not being able to scan a B&W (mono) PDF from the control panel on the printer – I do it all the time with no problems.
I didn’t want to write my review too soon without trying out all the features, but I figured my experiences were at least now worth 2 cents. OfficeMax has it for $199 this week with $70 in MaxPerks (gift card) and I’m tempted to buy another one!
