  1. I bought this new machine for my office,I needed a Fax conformation, read the book,e-mailed the company finally I got teck support on the phone, this machine is not easy to understand. It took up to much space in my computer and my computer man had to come and re-install the softwear.Costing me too much time, buy something easy to install and use. The faxes are too light coming in and we don’t know why, have plenty of ink. Not going to waste 45 minutes on hold,it is easier just to make a copy of the fax darker. Still cant get a copy of the conformation with the time on it.Must make a copy of what I faxed and staple it to the time conformation the machine prints out.Machine is fast and quiet.Need to have extensive knowlege of the computer world to even hook this up, my 21 year old asst.could not do it and she has been working with computers her whole life.

  2. Well after many minutes on hold I finally got a teck. in Blangladesh! Faxes could not be read on the other end. SO a new machine arived. No new I hit the report log and the machine was more then a year old and was at a location in Pa. Same problem again can’t read faxes on other end. Called and was told could not return machine for a refund could only get a replacement of a used machine again and No you can’t get a conformation of what you faxed just a fax # and time. Try to match that up when you are busy. The machine will be donated to some who does not need to fax as much as I do. I’m looking for something better.

The dates of the 5-star reviews may tell most of the tale: I bought the X6170 about two years ago based on the price, the sheet feeder and my experience with a Lexmark network laser that is now 7-9 years old and still cranking along. From the beginning, the X6170 would suddenly interrupt my telephone conversations and scream a fax tone in my client’s ear (Lexmark solution: restore factory defaults — so helpful). I also noticed that an 8×10 photograph used 20-25% of an ink tank to print. But the final straw was that six months ago (18 months old), the printer began to misfeed paper, either not picking it up (and I assume, spraying ink everywhere inside) or feeding at an angle (something the printer was specifically designed to prevent). It always puzzled me that the paper bin did not contain a single straight edge, making the stack always appear crooked. I would avoid anything that looks like this Lexmark printer (Dell has used a clone of it). I know I will in the future.

    CRAP!!!

Seriously the worst fax machine I have ever owned, even worse then my terrible $59 brother!

This can only fax a few pages at a time, 2 to be exact. Anything above that won’t go through.

SSSSLLLLOOOOOWWWW Printing and Faxing… Turtles walk faster than this thing prints and faxes!

Printing out pics is a nightmare, granted this isn’t really made for that type of printing, but if you decide to print out a small pic it looks terrible.

Calling customer service is great until the operator starts talking and you can understand a darn thing he says. I’ve called several times so it wasn’t a one time thing.

All in all the worst purchase I ever made, and buying from staples I thought I was safe however they only have a 15 day return window. I will never purchase a Lexmark again!

I am actually on line reviewing another printer. I have had the Lexmark for exactly a year now. For the past month, every few pages or so, I would get a “hardware error” message. Obviously, Lexmark is having trouble with this because there were instructions on the website on how to fix this. I tried and tried and tried. I am usually pretty handy with this type of thing. Well, I can get it to work for about a page or two and then it does it again. So I have to turn it off, take the printer head apart and put it back together. Now it has gotten so bad that I can’t even print a page, hence looking for a new machine to go out and buy tonight. Had the same problem with the document feeder being crooked. Some days it was, some days it wasn’t. I read on another review some where that Lexmark makes products good for only a year and that was true in my case. I am about a medium print user and really thought that when I bought this it would last much longer. I will never buy Lexmark again. Cartridges are really expensive as well!
