This HP printer is garbage. Like the other reviewers here, mine didn’t connect to my wireless network, nor could it even finish installing the driver(s) when connected directly to my Mac via USB. The technology HP is trying push on the average consumer so they can make money on ink cartridges is abominable. Avoid this handsome rust-colored paperweight at all costs.

What a nightmare. I bought this printer with my computer excited to finally have a wireless printer in the house. I still don’t. I worked on trying to install this printer for two days on my own, but was not able to get this printer to connect wirelessly to my network. I have 4 computers in the house. None of them can talk to this little paperweight.

Assuming I was stupid and missing something obvious I first contact HP through their chat system. Three hours later I was no where. The guy on the other end of the chat simply did all of the things I had already done with the same results. The next day I camped out on the phone determined to get to the bottom of it. After a 30 minute wait for a real person we proceeded to spend 4 (yes four) hours on the phone trying to resolve it. The nice Indian gentleman took control of my computer remotely and tried everything under the sun, including everything I had already tried, to make it work. Downloads, reloads, resets, you name it, no luck. The next day I went back to Best Buy and exchanged it for another one assuming the one I had MUST be defective. The new one is exactly the same.

Shame on HP for putting this kind of poor product into the market. It tarnishes their name and will make me forever leery of a new HP printer.

I’m looking at Lexmark printers now.

By the way, I was given a case # and promised that an HP representative would call me to resolve my case. To date this has never happened.

Basically I purchased this printer because it was small and wireless. But it’s not that small and it won’t connect to the wireless network at my school, even though everywhere I asked ensured me that it would. All the hp troubleshooting help in both the instructions and online is worthless. This may be a fine printer if you want to use it at home with a visible wireless network with no password but otherwise it is worthless.

As far as the print quality goes, I have only used it for printing black and white text but they are super crisp.

Best Buy has this Printer for 64.99 today and the Acer AS5534-1121 for 399.99 TODAY

  5. I bought this at Best Buy on the recommendation of the salesperson. I asked two questions. The first was whether it came with a cable. I was told it didn’t so I bought one. It did come with a cable so I had to return the one I bought. The second question was whether it had OCR software. I was told it did. After trying to scan a document to editable text and only being able to insert an object into a WORD document I contacted HP’s email help. After the first rep told me it did have OCR software and gave me instructions on how to use it, I tried the instructions and got to steps that were not in my software and could not get editable text. I recontacted the rep who again assured me that OCR was included and he then moved me up the tech support ladder to a rep who then informed me that it did not have OCR software. Lesson learned is don’t believe either Best Buy or HP on this one.

It does print nicely and makes good copies, both in color or black and white. I originally wanted to buy a Canon printer and am sorry now that I didn’t.
