We’ve installed two of these printers on a network over a 2003 Server. Problem is, once the printer is shared and a test page is sent to the printer, the printer itself becomes Unshared after. Weird. This is documented on many forums and HP’s only response is that this printer is not designed to be used for printer sharing. That is pure BS. This is a network printer. I believe HP put this design flaw in to make if appear to be a lower class printer. To resolve this, do not have users use the Print Test Page feature in printer properties and all will be ok. Another good design flaw (but possibly intended) from our good friends at HP.
if you want to spend a lot of your valuable time talking to hp call center. Do not think it twice, buy this product
Bouhgt it, it did not work. HP changed it, worked for two month. Failed. Changed it again, and came a defective product again. They are in the process of changing it again. I am praying to the printer godess…
By the way, UPS service is fine
I wasn’t able to connect my LaserJet 1100 to my home network so my wife always had to turn on my computer to use it. But I bought the P1505 (NOT the P1505n) to replace the 1100 because I had a cheap Hawking H-PSU1 print server and figured I could use that to connect the printer directly to the network. Well, the incredibly inept HP support folks were of little help, with one rep proclaiming that this model ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY couldn’t be networked. “You shoulda bought the P1505n!” he told me. And I had a bit of trouble getting the Hawking print server up and running on my network, since networks and I don’t get along all that well. But now it’s up and running and works great! My wife can print without my PC being booted. The print quality is excellent and the features and price were terrific. It’s noisy but we don’t print a whole lot of stuff anyway. When I compare the speed over the network to having it connected via USB to my computer, the print server appears to slow it down somewhat but it’s tolerable. And the PPMs are quite good compared to my LJ 1100.
Don’t believe reports that the P1505 can’t be networked…even if they come from HP’s tech support!
I read some of the negative reviews and was a little worried about the speed. It’s great! First page is pretty quick and just keeps pumping them out every 2-3 seconds.
We purchased this printer as it was supposed to be comparable to another printer that had been discontinued. This takes a long time to start printing. From the moment you press the print button to when you have your printed document almost seems like an eternity. It also seems to have trouble picking up the paper through the paper tray. We are not at all impressed with this printer.
