I never write reviews, just read them before buying something. I felt a moral obligation to warn about the intense annoyance this printer will bring to your life! This is a horrible printer. I have had 3 of them and they all have the same problems. I can’t return it for a different model because I misplaced the instruction manual and was unable to return the printer without it. I have been buying a new J4550 each time, taking the instruction manual out of the new box and putting it in the old box so I could return it. I am at the point now that I am going to throw this printer into the garbage. I don’t even care if I lose money. I probably will actually save money if I buy a printer that I don’t have to change the ink cartridge every other week! I don’t even print very much!

Here are the problems that have occurred in EACH of the 3 printers (J4550):

The upper paper feed has broken and won’t even recognize paper is there.

It says there is a jam all the time, but there really isn’t any paper jammed anywhere. I pretty much took the printer apart to find paper. I usually have to turn the printer off and back on to reset it. Annoying

Sometimes when I am trying to print, it makes this horrible clicking sound like it is really having a hard time! This has happened in 2 out of 3 printers.

hp J4550 Cd Installation take 2 hours to Install. thats the part that really gripes me. why cant the software download in 15 minutes tho it dosent. I cant step away & leave it because it require a lot of Clicking NEXT botton a lot. the other problem its been pain butt ASE. I payed 39.00 for it at Costco Eureka California. thats red bargin. that software is the only thing on my Nerves. I need to use the Scanner because I fax things free through FaxZero free. but there have been a lot of times it dident open up kept asking for the software when it was plugged into the USB Port. I need to fax some stuff NOW im still waiting the dam cd to install. Im ganna rip my hair out of my head and be bold & talk about stress. god help me. I will controll my self. I need to be carefull with my computer because I cant keep doing this.

  3. This is the worst HP printer I have ever owned. It constantly gives an error message and uses a lot of ink. Although I am a big fan of HP printers, this one is definetely not their best product.

  4. DO NOT WASTE YOUR $$ YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR and this is the worst printer I’ve ever had. The printer works okay – if you can get it to work. The paper feeder is by far its weakest link. It can only handle a few sheets at a time and constantly jams or claims that the feeder is empty when it isn’t. The quality of print is good, but the ink runs out extremely fast, even on fast draft. Seems like HP just slapped this one together to make themselves some money. It is a shame that a company that has built itself on trust and reputation has rested on its laurels and now produces crap. Producing a printer that cannot perform its most basic function, i.e., print, is like an auto manufacturer producing a vehicle that has malfunctioning steering. The only difference is that the auto manufacturer would be sued!

What a rolling piece of junk! It wouldn’t even turn on after owning it for 8 days. We took it back and plan to buy another brand.
