It is Very reliable. I got mine for about $32 @ Walmart locally. While moving, three months after purchasing it, the software CD got bent and I couldn’t re-install it so I contacted HP and they actually mailed me a new one free of charge. I am one satisfied customer!!!! It makes me want to always use HP printers!!!! This one is a bit slow but steady and reliable. They printing quality is almost always great but like all printers can get off. One thing though, is that paper frequently gets stuck in the printer… i don’t know why so i have to keep an eye on it. Also, it seems to me to use less ink than other printers and the ink isn’t too pricey. All in all, it was a good purchase!!! And 4 months later, it’s still working great… so i can’t complain and for a great price too. Also works great w/ the free Greeting Card software that came w/mine… the colors are great.

I did not buy this through Amazon, but I bought it for less than $50 replacing my 3rd Lexmark. I will never buy Lexmark again. The D1520 regularly cleans its heads and prints quite a few color pages for the money. Ink is not terribly expensive. The only downside is the amount of HP software that comes bundled with the driver. It’s a little noisy, but not annoying.

I don’t need a fancy printer. This is about as basic as you can get and it’s fine. My major complaint is that I have to replace one or the other ink cartridge about every 2 months and I don’t do a lot of printing. I’m wondering if anyone else has this problem.

Printer did not have a black cartridge or the USB connector. It took seven painful installs before the driver finally took. It is woefully slow and uses quite a bit of color ink.

Several years ago when I purchased my first computer, I purchased a Lexmark printer to go along with it, mainly because it was so cheap. What I soon learned is that Lexmark makes their money mostly from ink because their ink cartridges don’t last very long and are incredibly expensive. A few months ago the Lexmark printer I had died and I was free to buy a new printer. However, I live on a limited budget, so I had to be cautious of the price and pick up a printer that was inexpensive but also would last and wouldn’t cost an arm and a leg for ink cartridges.

I came across the HP DESKJET D1520. The printer is smaller than most desktop printers you will come across and it does print a bit slower than other printers I have used in the past. However, it works incredibly well. I don’t print a massive amount of documents, but I do print off a lot of reports, letters, diagrams, etc. I have had the printer for three months now and it has yet to need a new printer cartridge. I would have had to have bought two with my old Lexmark in the same amount of time.

The printer is very easy to install and it doesn’t take long for the software to load to one’s computer. The HP DESKJET D1520 includes a color cartridge, but you will have to get a USB cable to hook it up to your computer. You will also need to buy a black ink cartridge. This really doesn’t offset the price of the computer much because if you have an old USB cable around you can use that (I took the one off of my Lexmark computer that broke) and the black ink cartridges only cost around $12 (depending on where you buy them).

Overall, I have been pleasantly surprised with this printer and am quite happy with it. If you don’t have a massive amount of documents and are able to wait 30 seconds or longer between documents, it’s a great little printer for an incredibly inexpensive price.
