  1. As a printer-to-paper device, it is excellent, and fast. My problem is that except for the rather rudimentary direct to CD/DVD driver that is included with the printer, there is no longer a software package available from Roxio, my desired and previously used (on the HP C5280) software package. Essentially, at this point, the D5460 is a paper printer, but not the printable CD/DVD printer that I thought I was purchasing.HP D5460 Photosmart Printer

  2. I’ve been an HP fan for a long time, but this has changed me. At every printing, it goes through this noisy, banging ritual before it starts. In draft mode it goes too fast and sucks 3-4 sheets in at a time. Reloading 8.5 x 11 paper knocks off the upper paper feeder which is a chore to put back in. This is my second one, actually. The first one self-destructed when I — carefully and according to instructions — replaced the main black cartridge. HP replaced it, but only after nearly an hour on the phone getting “do this, do that…” Then of course HP sent me a warning that if they didn’t get the first one back soon, they’d charge me for the new one. AFTER they received the return. The thing’s telling me I need ink again, so I’m working up my nerve…

  3. I bought this printer from Staples. I did manage to get about 100 CDs printed out of it but it was a chore. You cant print more than one at a time. I was constantly switching pictures so this was not too big of a problem. Software for CD printing is AWEFUL. Printer is noisy and slow. It moves back and forth constantly for 30 seconds at a time. Startup is extremely slow. It is constantly giving error messages about various things. CD tray open; lid open; wrong size paper; blah blah blah – very annoying when you just want to print something and it wont let you because its little brain cant be flexible. After about 3 months it wont even get to a point where I can print anything. I turn it on and it goes back and forth for about 2 minutes and finally says that there is an error or that the tray is missing. Only option is to shut it down. Startup brings the same problem. I now have a 25 lb paperweight.

  4. The printer I received was extremely well priced, works simply, and has separate ink cartridges for every color, which is quite a money saver.

  5. The D5460 produces fine photo quality. It will also print labels on CDs and address envelopes. It has a dedicated tray for smaller paper sizes that works very well.
