I like the printer overall for the quality of the print.

However, there are 2 major cons.

The size of the unit, and the setup.

Based on the setup instructions, the unit needs to be connected in, loaded with toner, and powered up, and software installed in a specific order. (i.e. it’s not just plug and play) It took about 20 to 30 minutes to set up the unit.

The overall speed is “ok”, but not wonderful, and the unit is huge.

It would not be practical for the average persons home office space.

I’m assuming the size is for it’s ability to print in larger formats, but again, that’s not practical for a home user.

Overall the quality of print is very good, but at about 20 cents per page at a copy shop for color copies/prints, it’s better to just keep your files portable, and print that way.

Though I only had it so far for one week, I find the Epson WorkForce 1100 Printer to be working excellent. Setting up was like pouring drink into a glass…..quite easy! I’ve been searching diligently for months for a (laser) printer to print on 300gsm card, and found very few, which obviously would cost just as much as the foundation of a new home. The Workforce 1100 does this with ease, and also prints 11×17 and 13×19 size documents, not to mention the inks that are fade, smudge & water resistant, which is paramount with my type of business. The inks are cheaper than if I took my wife to lunch, which makes this printer very cost effective. The print quality is good for what i’m doing, but yet I have to print photos to comment any further on print quality. I recommend this printer, as a matter of fact, I have 2 other Epson models in my Amazon shopping cart to purchase.

  3. For the money, you are getting an awesome machine. Setup was a snap. If you can follow directions, you’ll be printing in a few minutes. If you cant…maybe printing isnt for you. Includes full size print cartridges, not the 2 page wonders you normally get. I like the multi-cartridge idea. Print quality is excellent. NOTE- This is not a photo printer. It doesnt claim to be a photo printer. If thats what your after, you need to spend 3 or 4 times more.

I cant figure out why so many people are surprised at the size. It’s a no brainer that something that prints WIDE FORMAT 13″ x 19″ paper is going to be much larger. And then there is the fact that the dimensions are clearly stated. You wouldnt buy a long bed pickup and then be surprised because it’s long, would you? And the fact that there is no cable should be obvious as well. A- They are trying to cut costs to get the price down as far as possible, and B- Everyones cable length needs are different, so why not save the cost of a cable the customer may not be able to use and let them get what they need with the savings. A great plan in my mind. We had a longer cable we bought for our other printer that worked perfectly and it was free!

So you dont think I’m an Epson employee waving the banner, there are a couple things I dont care for. The warm up time is a little longer than my other printers. As the unit is geared for business I would expect networking capabilities, but no such luck.

Seriously, for the money you are getting a great wide format printer. Excellent value. Oh, and I found a place online that has 24lb 13×19 paper in 500pk for about $32 which is half what I was expectiong. I love it when something actually does what it claims it will do.

I’m not happy with the Epson Workforce 1100 Wide Format Printer. I received this printer on 12-4-09. Once I got this printer all set up, there were problems from the start. Once I installed the necessary included software onto my computer, it failed to detect it. I check my USB cable, that was fine. I checked to see if the printer was plugged in correctly, it was. However, since I have Windows 7, I thought possibly I needed an updated printer driver. I checked their website and they did have a Windows 7 driver available for download. I download then installed it on my computer. I was still having problems. I called Epson. A tech support technician walked me through a few steps and we finally got the printer to work correctly.

Once I started printing, right away I was unimpressed with the print quality. While black and white printing is good, the output in color is average at best. The color is off on a lot of my printouts and it doesn’t compare to my other printer. It’s actually quite a bit worse. I’ve tried all kinds of paper types and weights of several different brands. I’ve tried tweaking the printer settings. Nothing seemed to work. This printer comes with series 68 inks(the high capacity inks) which I don’t think was meant for great print quality. I figured maybe if I get the 69 series inks, which according to Epson’s website, it’s supposed to produce better quality prints, that would do the trick. I never got the chance to find out.

    Fast forward.

Today, 12-22-09, I got my new 69 series inks. When I went to turn on the printer to install them, the printer started malfunctioning. The green power light started blinking and shut off, then the printer started grabbing the loaded paper half way then it stopped. This resulted in the paper getting jammed in the printer. Then the load paper and load ink lights started blinking orange in unison. I had to forcefully pull out the jammed paper. I turned off the printer and took out the paper from the top feeding tray. I turned the printer back on and again the same thing started happening except this time it kept grabbing for paper which wasn’t there and again the orange lights would continuously blink. I barely used this printer because it was only intended for use if I need to print to larger paper. My main printer is my old Canon MX850.

I called Epson and got a fairly helpful tech support technician. He walked me through a few troubleshooting steps and nothing seemed to work. Finally he told me this printer is experiencing a hardware failure and there was no fix. He offered to replace it but since it was within Amazon’s 30-day window plus the extended holiday return period which I believe ends 1-31-10, I opted to just ship it back to Amazon and look for another brand printer.

I purchased this printer because like I said, I needed it mainly for printing on large formats. I also purchased it because of the incredible price and great reviews. I had high hopes for this printer and I’m really disappointed with it. I have had a previous bad experience with another model Epson printer but I didn’t let that dissuade me from getting this one because I believe just because one has a problem with a particular model of a brand doesn’t mean it should tarnish their whole line of products. However, that’s two for two and now I’m rethinking that idea. I’m sorry that my luck isn’t as good as everyone else’s but this is my honest experience with this product. I did plan on keeping it even though I initially wasn’t impressed with the print quality until it started malfunctioning for no apparent reason.

We got this to make printing architectural drawings faster than our supersized printer that prints 24″ x 42″. We paid over 1500 for that printer and I’ve hated it since the day it was installed. This epson printer, doesnt print that size, but it has not once backed up or eaten the paper or smudged ink everywhere. For less than 200 dollars, this was one of our best investments. I’ve also tried using it for photos, but it wasnt designed for that purpose so I cant judge its performance on that. It does print a little slow for high quality prints but that can be expected on all printers. I would recommend this to anyone needing 11×17 prints.
