In spite of having 6 colors to print with, the Epson prints look faded and washed out. They look grainy. I agree with all of the Consumer’s Reports reviews that have listed the HP portable printers above the Epsons and Canons in print quality. (Go to the library and see for yourself). When you look at the photos side by side you will see how much brighter and clearer the HP photos are.
I suggest you do what I did and take one of your favorite photos into the store and print it out on a Canon, Epson and HP. After all, you are the only one that needs to be pleased. You can also decide whether it is more important to store your photos it a bottle of water, or for them to look great and last a long, long time. I bought an HP 475. It is smaller than the Epson deluxe, prints 4×6s, 4×12s and 5×7s, stores photos on its hard drive and will even show them on a TV with a remote control. I think it is very cool when traveling or at family get togethers.
The Epsons are so big and heavy and ugly looking. I think Epson is still trying to live on their past glory. BUY THE HP 385 OR 475. Either one is better than this printer.
I prefer the HP Photosmart D7360 because it does everything but my daughter likes this one for her expert photos.
The PictureMate stopped working after using once. We called the manufacturer and was told it was out of warranty even though it was purchased just 2 months ago. After much discussion they decided to send us a new one. In the future I will probably buy this type of item from a camera shop to be sure there are no problems with the warranty.
I recieved this as a this for a gift in 05 and completely stopped using it by mid 2006. While the prints were perfect, and it was nice to be able to jazz people by the ability to print pics from their visit–same day, there were just too many cons. I HATE that I am forced to buy the ink in an expensive package, combined with 100 sheets of Epson picture paper. The print pack ink is guaranteed to last for ALL of the 100 paper’s but it never lasted beyond 30 prints for me! I have built up quite the stockpile of left over printer photo paper now, so much for “guaranteed to last”. I thought Epson would be the answer to my printer nightmares (I’m a former HP printer user), but they have proven to be the worst of all with their strictly proprietary products.
This is a great printer! I didn’t buy it here, in fact I saw it in a store that I guess was no longer going to carry it and nabbed the last one for $18!!! I think it’s the best buy I have ever made!!! It’s easy to use, has some neat frames that are fun for kids pics and makes spectacular photos. I used up the 20 pages of Epson photopaper that came with it and tried some glossy Kodak that I had on hand. It prints just as great on it too! The initial tonor cartridge is said to only print about 20 photos, but I’ve printed 30 so far and the quality is a good as the first one. Don’t just replace the cartridge just because it says it will only print x number of photos…
I would (and have) recommend this printer to anyone. I have only used it by putting in my SD card from my camera so far. I would love to purchase a battery for it, too, but haven’t yet.
Great printer at any price!!
