  1. Ok… I get my package in the mail today, after a week of waiting, and I am all excited. Go to set it up and find that the directions are very clear and easy. Get to the final step where it tells you to connect the printer to your PC, and Guess What?!? NO USB CORD!!!! I don’t understand how you can sell a printer if it can’t be used. Now I have to go out and purchase a USB cable!!! While it is a good price for the printer… it really isn’t because the cord is not there…

Unpacked it, and hooked it up according to the directions. My computer (Vista Home Basic SP2) would not recognize it, was listed as an “unknown USB device”. The drivers were installed correctly, and I even uninstalled, and reinstalled them. I`m no newbie computer user, have been computing/online since 1998. So, I ended up going to my local big box store and purchasing a Canon printer for the same price, which works perfectly. The HP has been returned to Amazon.

  3. When it does come down to it, HP does make honestly the best quality in printers. They have shown that very well with their Deskjet series over the years. But, when their is always a great job with printer, there is honestly one that could have had a bit better of a use for. That is honestly the case with their Deskjet D1660 Printer. While it is a inexpensive and convient price for a printer, there are a few problems that I’ve had with the printer right out the gate. The first of them is that my laptop wasn’t able to recognize the software that came with the HP Printer. It was very difficult to install after a few times, so I had to deal with their customer service for constant help. Second, the other problem I had is that I couldn’t put too many sheets of paper into the printer slot, because there were too many paper jams, that ultimately shut the printer down. As a result, you would need to honestly put around 20-35 sheets of paper in the slot for it to work, rather than more of them. Also, you would need to purchase a USB 2.0 Cable seperately, which doesn’t come with the Printer. Overall, while it does print out a lot of great documents, I was expecting a little bit better for what the price was able to print out in results. Hopefully, HP can come up with better printers that are easier to use, at a affordable price.

I got this printer today with HP’s FREE express two day shipping. Don’t buy it from here, you can get it for ten bucks cheaper at HP’s official store.

It’s a nice printer, and the setup was easy except it kept informing me that I had Windows 7. Gee thanks, I didn’t know that! It still works fine though, and the setup completed and installed a bunch of programs I didn’t want; gee thanks for that, too!

One funny thing is that the instructions are at the bottom of the box, so I just started hooking the printer up and putting the ink and paper in and everything and then the thought hit me; shouldn’t I be following the instructions? So I sifted through the debris that I had created when I opened the box and found the magic quick-start guide. I realized I had did it in the wrong order! NOOOO! But I followed them the best I could and before I knew it, I was printing my test sheet!

However, that was a suprise; it was louder than I thought. It prints fast, but isn’t too discreet.

It’s very small though, and the printer fits comfortably behind my Compaq notebook.

Hooking up the printer to the network was very quick and easy thanks to smooth compatiblity with Windows 7. Also, HP customized the printer’s device page (a new Windows 7 feature) so that when I double click it in Devices and Printers the dull print que window doesn’t come up; instead a pretty UI with a bunch of features.

Overall, for the price I paid for it, I love it and it was so worth it!

The [ASIN:B002FB64Z2 Deskjet D1660 Printer (CB770A#B1H)]] printer is everything I was hoping to find! Its compact size is perfect for my small office space, it has only the basic features that I need (no fax, and these days it’s hard to find a printer with no fax), and it produces pictures quickly. Very simple to set up and use. You can hear it printing, but for the low price, I’m sure not complaining!
