Roger, thanks so much for your objective review. But I am really in need of a new printer–the last 3 HPs have been bitter disappointments. If not HP and not Canon’s latest (7600)–then who makes the best MFN, scanning, printing, copying, faxing–and what model should I be looking at Thankyou.

  2. Canon error 6A00 appeared on screen within days, and the printer was broken.

Online searching indicated that this error is related to a jammed transport mechanism.

Switching from and disappointed with the short life span of my last 3 HP printers, I was at first very pleased with this printer, computer interface works well scanning and printing, fax system is good, however to make copies takes forever, as this printer is constantly resetting itself, adjusting print head or whatever it does. But the deal breaker is no ink is available in any stores ( I am in an urban area with lots of choices). We had to buy on-line and were stuck waiting 2 weeks with no printer as well the ink is very expensive. For this reason alone I would pass on this.In this day and age why are home printers the weak link in all home technology?

I’ve had the Pixma MX7600 for a few months now and it been a disappointing experience to say the least. First off, the printer is extremely noisy and shakes so much when it prints that I had to put wedges under the file cabinet it sits on (I didn’t have this problem with my last printer). It takes at least a minute to start printing after I click the “print” button. After I click “print” the printer starts shaking and making a lot of noise even before it actually starts printing. The quality of the photos is HORRIBLE to the point where I have to order my photos online from Kodak rather than print them out myself.

To add insult to injury the inktanks ARE NOT recyclable. Prior to buying the Pixma MX7600 I did some research and found out that these inktanks can’t be recycled by simply dropping them off at an electronics store because the inktanks have a microchip in them. I then went to Canon’s website where they put on this whole song and dance about how much they care about the environment and how they recycle all their products. Yesterday I e-mailed Canon customer support to ask for an address where the empty ink tanks could be shipped and was told that Canon does not recycle ANY of their inktanks and I need to recyle them locally. When I told them that these particular inktanks can’t be recycled locally because of the microchip they basically told me that they don’t give a s**t. So much for honesty in advertising.

This is the LAST Canon product I will ever buy. The quality sucks and they lied through their teeth about being eco-friendly.

I’ve always been a Canon fan because of their great great printers but Canon missed the boat on this one. The print on plain paper is excellent due to the clear cartridge laying down a base coat. But I hate the fact that you can’t use the rear feeder for plain paper feeding, and heavy stock won’t go through the front cassette. You could use front or rear feeders on previous Canons I’ve owned. We were unable to print out our Christmas cards because they wouldn’t go through the cassette. And if we ran them through the rear feeder we had to use the photo setting and the quality was terrible. After you print the feeder continues to run and run and run. It’s constantly cleaning it’s heads and using up ink. Very annoying!! Then the printing kept coming out with scued print. Also it’s gigantic that takes up allot of desk space and weights 46 lbs. Technical support new less about the printer than I did. Canon offered to send me a reconditioned machine (not a new one) even thought it was only days old. Needless to say I sent it back even though I got it for Half of the list price.
