I bought this printer for my daughter attending and college and liked it so much I bought one for myself. Neither of us used it on a regular basis and they both quit feeding paper at the same time - about 1-1/2 years later. Very frustrating since we both had just bought new ink.

I got my canon a while ago and so far it has worked nicely. It makes a lot of noise when it gets ready to print but the quality is good. I haven't used it much since I got it. Once I move, I should have more accurate review of the product.

I bought this printer to use with a PC on which I am running Ubuntu (debian Linux variant). Canon has put out drivers for Linux for all their printers. Unfortunately they dont work very well for this particular one. The color printing comes out with different colors scaled differently. I had to buy a $39 print driver called Turbo print, which works quite well. Scanner works fine with Scangear. The printer itself is very good. If you however print out quick low quality photos, you will find if you look closely that the picture has bands. This does not happen if you choose higher quality printing.

After a few months of use some of the color ink cartridges are still half full but, now I have a ink cartridge recognition problem. The printer is basically not usable at this point.

I bought this based on the glowing reviews and my past love of Canon products. I was highly disappointed.

The placement of the power cord is extremely inconvenient. It is hard to attach, falls out constantly, and the way it loops around to the back makes it nearly impossible to place it on any kind of shelf. if you're trying to conserve space and don't want a large printer out in the open, don't buy this and expect it to go into any against the wall apparatus.

The printer boasts it works well with several types of paper. This is not the case. When using A4 paper, the ink dampens the paper and smears easily, even after being given time to dry. For a university student in Europe, like I am, this is inconvenient because it is hard to find "normal" paper and it makes the documents impossible to highlight.

The software is also more complicated than I thought it would be. There is no explanation of how to print in a double-sized manner, which should be automatic for any kind of printer like this one. Instead, if I want double-sized papers, I have to take each page out and rotate it and select print again.

The printer is also noisy, and the manual reflects the poor quality of the software. The front paper feeder is also a bit inconvenient. The cartridges are hard to find and cannot be shipped internationally without a lot of red tape.

Here is a simple chart:

Cons:
Noisy
Complicated and insufficient software
Poorly written manual
Inconvenient power cable
Poor printing quality
Rare and expensive cartridges
Front paper feeder

Pros:
Scans
Prints (on a basic level)
Large screen for selection

Front flap to be left open, or closed? Closed it hits against paper loaded in tray, push the paper in further, get error message. Leave it open looks messy and unprofessional. Canon could do much better.
