Canon wouldn’t print my review because it points out some serious failings.
When it works, this printer is great. Ink is pricey but that’s to be expected.
Printer works well under Panther 10.3.9 but fails completely under Tiger 10.4.11.
Canon Technical Support has even confirmed this with me after running me through the troubleshooting gauntlet. What they haven’t done is fix the driver that supports Tiger and Leopard (if you go the Canon website they identify the Leopard issue as “phenomena”- a vague way of saying it doesn’t work. They haven’t publicly confirmed the issues with Tiger.)
So word of warning – if you’re still running Tiger or Leopard – don’t expect much. Canon can’t seem to bothered with supporting older OSes.
To be fair, operation on Panther is flawless.
Best part is printing on BOTH SIDES of paper. Sweet!
I run Panther and Tiger on PowerMac G4 Dual
Setup was simple using the instructions provided by Canon. The first prints I made were photographs, and they look like professional prints from a processor. This printer also is quick to print internet pages (text and pictures). This is so far the best printer I have ever had.
This is a great printer, especially if you are looking to mostly print photos. It prints them fast and with high quality. Having separate ink tanks for each color is a plus. It is also quiet. Got it on sale for $60 which made it even more of a bargain. I’ve owned an i560 Canon for 5+ years and it started to show signs of wearing down. So I bought an HP C4680 which I immediately returned because it had two major problems: 1) the HP glossy photo paper is thinner and has a poor finish to it compared to the Canon photo paper; 2) it is an all-in-one printer…that means it does everything but not very well. So it was returned for this printer (ip4700 Canon) and we love it.
This printer does as good or better job than any other printer I have ever used. However, like all other printers on the market, the ink will cost more than the printer. Literally…I paid $63.00 for the printer and a refill of ink cost me $72.00 at Office Depot. One problem with this printer (as with all printers I have used) is that if you have clogging of one color, you have to purge all colors which wastes a lot of ink. If you do a lot of printing as I do, before long you will have a message telling you that the ink reservoir is full. To have that corrected will cost more than a new printer! The ink cartridge function works perfectly but I gave it a low rating because as the price of ink goes up the size of cartridges have gotten smaller.
Got this for my wife for Christmas. No more ordering prints for us. We can print our own lab quality photos right at home. This is our first photo printer and we are not disappointed. Extremely satisfied with the purchase. Buy it!
