I owned 2 of the predecessor product BJC 85 I think they are called and after having a printer repair person tinker with them they both actually do work again. This one seems much more character deficient electronically in that when there is clearly plenty of ink it starts sending messages to your computer that damage will occur if you do not change the ink cartridge. The old ones simply showed rather than threatening when they were out and that was much more satisfying and beleivable. Unfortunately for me the old ones are at my office which is over 1.25 hour drive away and now this one has flaked. It says the black ink is out but I just put a brand new brand (have never tried other) ink cartridge in and in fact was quite in disbelief at how fast it seemed to go through the last black ink cartridge. Now with the new ink cartridge it is not saying that the black ink is out for a change on the computer but it looks like the black ink is out all over the page…except that the top line and the bottom line are printing with full and normal black ink!!! I think it’s too late to return to Amazon. So I’ll be spending time on the phone with Canon or back to the printer repair guys. Both of the old BJC 85 printers worked for many years without any problem…just started when they had more time in hotter environment and not used as continuously…then that was fixed by changing the cartridge the ink tank goes in so disappointed in Canon that the new one has flaked so soon.
I bought this printer a year ago and am bitterly disappointed with it. It prints the first copy of a document just fine, but if I need a second copy, or make changes to the document, the next time it prints the document, it comes out in gray scale, whether it’s text or photos. This only happens on my MACs (system 10.5). It doesn’t happen on the old PC (Windows XP), so I suspect there’s a problem in the software but Canon won’t do anything about it, either in the US or in Europe (where I bought it). I’ve always had Canon printers clear back to when they were making them under the Apple Logo. Never before have I had any kind of problem; in fact, my Canon 5200R shipped across the ocean to Europe and works just fine with my wireless system.
The Bluetooth and battery part of the Canon iP100 work just fine. I just wish the printer did. I frequently travel and need a portable printer. Until this issue gets resolved, I’m not spending any more money on one. Yuch!
This little Canon mobile printer is great!
Works like a champ for a small portable unit!
It works well but I used the ip70, ip90 both worked well with Palm OS third party software. But not the ip100, so if you’re having to upgrade on Palm OS software it will not work. When I call Canon the said nothings changed other than it was a little heavier. When I told them that the third party companies said it was a bit map printer they said OOOOOH! So that makes me think they don’t know what’s going on with their printers. Now I’m stuck with a printer I can’t use. Ugh!
I bought the iP100 for business use. I wanted something that was small and portable, yet solid and reliable, and so far it seems I’ve found just that with this printer. It is even smaller than I thought it would be, but seems to be very well built. I read other reviews talking about how there’s no case available for this printer, but it actually fits nicely in the front pouch of my Dell laptop case. This printer is just an extremely convenient thing to own – though I bought it for business use, I can definitely see myself making use of it in other ways because it’s just so darn nice to have around. It prints just as good if not better and faster than my Canon desktop printer. It does seem a little expensive maybe, but in my opinion it’s most definitely worth it. I’ve always liked Canon printers and this one is no exception. If you need a portable printer, I can’t imagine you won’t be happy with the iP100.
