So far, all seems to be working just fine.
Look forward to using the many features installed with this printer
This Brother MFC-8870dw 30ppm Wireless Network Multifunction Laser Printer with Duplex Printing, Copying, Scanning and Faxing,is a veritable workhorse. My staff like the speed of the quick scan and memory features. This is the 3rd Brother unit that we have purchased this year as we have expanded.
An expensive machine that is not worth the price. Paper keeps getting stuck in the feeder. So, great difficulty scanning or faxing multiple documents. And it has damaged important papers.
I bought a similar model to this one at Costco, model MFC-8670DW. As far as I can tell it has the exact same features and specs as the MFC-8870DW, but I only paid $349.99 ($399.99 with a $50 mfr rebate). I did a lot of research and read many reviews about Brother printers and other all-in-one laser printers and decided there was nothing on the market with the same speed and features as the Brother. I have never owned a Brother printer before, so I was a little skeptical buying something other than an HP. The HP products I looked at were slower with less capabilities and more expensive. I have a small business and use every feature, printing, scanning, faxing and copying. So far it has been awesome and the duplexing works great!
I read some reviews about how hard it was to set up and how Brother customer service is non-existent, but that was not my experience at all. It was very easy to set up with one exception. The scanner driver didn’t load correctly so I called Brother and within 30 minutes they had diagnosed the problem and emailed me a link to download a new driver, which installed correctly and works beautifully. The speed is very quick and the print and scan qualities are great. I also read several reviews that talked about how bad it prints envelopes. People said they wrinkle and look terrible. So I tried printing a few envelopes and had the same results. I couldn’t imagine a printer like this printing such terrible looking envelopes so I looked in the manual for a solution. After reading the manual, I discovered that there are two levers in the back of the printer that have to be changed when printing envelopes. I repositioned the levers and tried again and the envelopes printed just fine with no wrinkles. This is a bit of a pain, but it does print envelopes as well as any other printer I’ve owned.
So if you need the speed and functionality of this printer, I would highly recommend it. If you have a[...] warehouse nearby, go there and save some money!
I purchased the unit intending to replace a lot of machinery in my office: printer, copier, scanner & fax machine. I work in graphics so scanning is crucial to my work. The device’s scanning is on amateur — to scan with a preview using the ADF you must feed the document twice — it doesn’t retain the preview in memory! And, if you scan from the ADF and select to scan as grayscale image, no matter what, it produces an image that is not grayscale but is Index Color which is useless for print graphics work. I have sent nearly two hours on the phone with their level 5 tech support who in the end confirmed that I was correct in these issues and was how the machine was made to work! They even warned me that if I were to upgrade to a newer driver/software package, then all scanning, not just from the ADF (from flatbed too which is now okay) would be Index color even if set to grayscale! I can’t begin to understand why anyone would want or expect a machine to perform in this matter.
