The machine is working great.
The process of buying and shipping was good.
Thanks again for your costumer services.
I love this machine. Works great networked with both my PC’s and my Mac. Printed 50 copies of a document in the same amount of time that my inkjet would have taken to print 3. Crisp text. Came with a starter cartridge that I’ve been using for 2 months now. Only flaw – it crinkles envelopes a little when printing them.
We use this in our home office. It replaced a print-only device so both of us could scan documents (we scan everything and discard the paper). The network scanning feature is excellent, allowing anyone in the office to scan over the network. Print quality is good, no jam issues. Others mentioned issues with envelopes, but I’ve never had a single problem. This is a very quiet machine, and unlike many other laser printers, doesn’t stink up the room.
I bought this when my trusty Brother MFC-9700 died. It had been a great printer, so I wanted to replace it. However, because it was urgent to replace it, I went to an office supply store and bought what they had – this model.
It appears very similar to the MFC-9700, but in practice, there are some problems.
1. It creases envelopes.
2. The paper tray doesn’t hold very much. I’m constantly having to refill it.
3. The toner leaks like crazy. I’ve cleaned it many times but it still spills toner onto my documents.
I run a small business and have another printer which I use for final documents. I use the MFC-8460N for regular printing, some letters, and drafts, and as my fax machine. So these problems are not crippling, but they are irritating. Definately not the quality of the MFC-9700.
On the plus side, this model hardly ever jams.

UPDATE: I’m updating after six months. The machine now jams frequently. I can’t load more than about 20 sheets of paper at a time. I plan to take this model home and replace it with a higher quality, non-brother printer. Disappointing, because my previous experience with Brother was much better.
The MFC-8460N worked well for two months and I was very happy with it. Then one day it just break down, and will not power on. I called and they said they will send a replacement; so I waited … About two week later, not receiving the replacement, I called back and they said they had to verify the address. Another two week or so went by, still not receiving the replacement, I called and again they wanted to verify address again. Then again, still not receiving the replacement, so I called and for the third time they again needed to verify the address. I demanded to talk to the manager. He promised to send the replacement overnight; and I received the printer within two days. Unfortunately the replacement did not work either — the paper kept being jam every single time! That would be the last Brother printer I would ever buy.
