Those who rated this product favorably must have low expectations for things on which they spend sizable amounts of money. I rarely leave feedback and only do so when a product falls into either extreme of performance — very good good or horrible. In this case, the product is horrible. To start, it makes a lot of noise, not as bad as a vacuum cleaner, but close. Second, its customer support is terrible, and its instructions for setting up a wireless network are poor. Third, it fails to do the very job it was designed to perform — it can’t print an envelope without creasing it so as to make the envelope look horrible. Fourth, I constantly get errors when trying to print envelopes — I now have to manually feed them to get them to print. Fifth, the “laser color” quality is poor; I have seen better with an inkjet. Last, their design tolerances are atrocious; I’m constantly unsure if the poorly designed plastic parts are going to break off when I adjust them. Don’t waste your money.

No matter how often I change the expensive toner cartridges, or how many times I’ve opened up the thing to clean it, toner spots just don’t go away from the finished prints.

Beyond that the color is dull, no life. The printer is very heavy. The duplex works well. The wireless feature works well. I like the fact that it can be connected via parallel and/or USB if you want to run wires for quicker printing. Replacing toner is real simple, but when it’s time to buy the six toner cartridges, you’ll spend more on them then the cost of the printer. Better to just buy another printer because it comes with all the cartriges.

When printing envelopes, it wrinkles the corners.

    Thumbs down.

  3. You would think a $400+ business machine would be able to handle simple business printing needs right?? Well guess again, if you bought this machine thinking you can use it to print with a variety of different papers you are sadly mistaken! I own a small business where we must print about 1000 pages a month using Brochure paper that is designed for Laser printers. After a few months of total agony dealing with continuous paper jambs we finally had enough and called Brother’s customer service. The service rep immediately started reading off his computer screen to us. Buried deep within the manual and documentation Brother states this machine can not handle brochure or photo paper and I should have known better because they put it in the manual which is BTW sealed inside the box until you get this printer home and if you are dilegent enough to read the manual cover to cover I would have seen this!!!! What kind of crap is that! A business class machine for well over $400 that can not do the simplest business printing task! I could have bought a $30 ink jet printer that could do the same damn thing this printer does! As you can see I am very upset that Brother has totally misrepresented this product as a business class machine when it is simply overpriced Ink jet. Don’t make the same mistake I have, if you only print on standard copy paper you are fine, if you want to print on any other type of stock DO NOT BUY THIS PRINTER!!!!!!!

Let me start by saying if I can give 0 stars or negative stars, I would.

The printer had problem of inks leaking (created smears everytime we print in color). We were suggested by C.S. to replace toners, which we did, but that did not solve the problem. When we tried to get C.S. to help us to either fix or replace the printer, they kept giving us crappy response to try to delay the process (obviously they did NOT want to do anything to fix the problem themselves). Eventually, after tens of phone calls, we got them to replace the printer – HOWEVER, they had the SAME problem again. Addition to that, now the printer jams with duplex printing.

Luckily we have purchased through a store and we bought extended replacement warranty, the store refunded us after Brother’s 1yr warranty expired (they could not do anything until then).

Seem like most people are enjoying the printer, which I am happy to hear, but I will never purchase anything from this company – because C.S. was terrible. They refuse to service the printer (even though it was still under their warranty), they gave us so hard time. I seriously never had that bad C.S. before in my entire life.

Now that we got refund from great ‘extended warranty’ from a store we purchased the printer (it’s not Brother’s warranty), I am out there again, looking for purchasing a new printer. Hope I can find something good that is not made by Brother.

I shopped extensively to find a duplex/wireless color laser printer and had decided on the Brother HL-4070CDW about a year ago. It had all the features I need but it was still at the high end of what I was willing to pay. I continued shopping and watching. Brother finally offered an ‘Instant Rebate’ and I was all over this printer. Although it hasn’t had a proper workout yet, the pages I printed as a test, both black text and color photos came out magnificent. The set-up was simple and quick. So far, I’m extremely satisfied with this printer and expect it will perform well for it’s intended use.
